Parent Welcome Back Letter 2017-2018

Dear Parent,

I hope you had a wonderful summer so far and on behalf of Midland High School, I would like to welcome you to the 2017-2018 school year. With this letter I hope I can count on you as a partner in order to ensure our children can have the best possible education and school experience. In order to be successful, all of the students need support from both the home and at school. I would encourage you to become an active participant in our school through volunteering, joining PTO, Midland Boosters, or attending school events whenever you can. Research supports when parents/guardians participate in their child’s education, there is a greater likelihood of academic success for the child.

Additionally, I want to stress the importance with you our commitment to the safety of your child as well. Our primary goal is to focus on learning, and efforts are ongoing to provide the safest learning environment possible for everyone. Among the most serious concerns we face as we work together to educate our children is the growing problem of drug and social media abuse throughout the state as well as the nation. I ensure you; we are taking steps to address these issues before they cause any substantial distraction to the learning environment here at Midland High School.

We welcome  several new faces to the high school this year: Rebecca Porter and Kim Hall will be joining the English team this school year. Zack Essex will be our new PE teacher and basketball coach. Monika Meierkord will be joining us again in the Special Education Department. Rachel Williams will be our new Guidance Counselor. Chantel Rinkel will be our newest addition to the Science Department. Cody Blunier will be joining our Ag Department. Furthermore, we will have a new head cook for the 2017-2018 school year. Jennifer Anderle will be working with Mimi in the kitchen. We still have a few spots to fill prior to the start of school.

There are a few changes to the schedule for the 2017-2018 school year. We changed our enrichment hour to accommodate an Advisory period at the end of the day. During this period, students will be able to complete homework and seek additional assistance from all teachers. We will also have RtI instruction in the media center for all eligible students. In the RtI room, we will have teachers from all core content areas to assist the students with all subject areas. Thus, we adjusted the schedule to accommodate the Advisory period. School will start at the same time but you will see lunch is at a later time.
