This webpage serves as a hub for my social studies classes at Midland High School. I am currently instructing for American History, World History, World Geography, Civics. Links to the individual pages are to the right.
This is my fourth year working at Midland High School. I grew up on a family farm in Princeville, Illinois and attended K-12 in that district. After high school, I attended and graduated from Illinois College in Jacksonville, Illinois where I studied Physical Education and Social Studies Education with a focus in History. During this time period, I also played for the collegiate Varsity baseball team.
In my classes, I put a strong emphasis on understanding the people of the time period or in the case of geography of that region. Civics is not just the study of government function and protocol but how those actions interact with the people it serves. History is not just about the "great" people or moments in time, but rather understanding how people lived their lives and reacted to or rose to meet a variety of challenges. Through this understanding, we can better apply these lessons to our own lives and benefit from the experiences of our ancestors.
